VISIONS 2012 Ends, But the Stories Continue

July 5, 2012 - VISIONS 2012, this year’s version of the Foundation Fighting Blindness’ annual conference, may have ended on July 1, but extended coverage of the conference is available, in many formats, for those who may have missed some of its activities or the event altogether.

The conference began in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 28, and offered more than 500 attendees opportunities to learn, first and foremost, about cutting-edge research. But it also featured sessions on coping, networking and assistive technology, and afforded attendees the chance to mingle with everyone from researchers to fellow Foundation members. Among the highlights were speeches delivered by two high-profile people affected by retinal diseases, financial analyst Paul Karos and adventurer Erik Weihenmayer.

As-it-happens coverage of this year’s VISIONS was provided via multiple social-media “channels,” including Facebook, Twitter and the Foundation’s blog, Eye on the Cure.

For a bird’s-eye view of the coverage, check out VISIONS 2012 Connect, where links to all three channels, as well as a Twitter feed, are available.

On Twitter itself, one hashtag page, #visions2012, is dedicated to the “conversation” that kicked off before the conference, and has continued ever since. Among the “tweets” are updates from Foundation staff as well as sponsors, exhibitors and Foundation members.

On Facebook, it’s best to check those posts starting on June 26.

And Eye on the Cure has a page dedicated to VISIONS 2012 coverage, which features posts not only from our research expert, Dr. Steve Rose, but bloggers Rich Shea, covering Foundation news, and John Corneille, who, as a person affected, chronicles his experiences at the conference.

Photos from VISIONS 2012 are now available on the Foundation’s Flickr page and sampled in the slideshow below.
